Anđelčići - Little Angels

Zatim u posudi napravite rastvor lepka i vode (odokativnom metodom) i u tu smesu ubacite parče prediva.

We are getting ready for the Christmas fair at Ema's school and I thought that this would be a nice addition to the sale. I have wanted to try this out for a long time, but never got round to do it. So, this is the year! The technique is very simple, a seven-year-old can do almost everything independently and a three-year old can help out by adding glitter.

You will need the following:

1. styrofoam plates
2. pins
3. paper
4. scissors
5. yarn (with as much natural fibre as possible, for better absorption of the glue)
6. water soluble glue

Draw the shape you want to make (Christmas tree, angel, star), cut it out and place the stencil onto the styrofoam plate turned upside down. Put the pins around the stencil, making sure to mark the edges, then remove the stencil. Make a mixture of glue and water (use your best judgment for the ratio) then put a piece of yarn into it. Soak it well, then place the yarn around the pins. First mark the outer edge of the shape, then zig-zag between the pins as you wish. It is recommended that after the zig-zag part you do another round of outlining the shape, to fix the zig-zag better. Wait to dry. When dry, remove the pins and decorate the ornament as you wish.

  • lepak
  • trakica

Both my two-year-old and my six-and-a-half-year-old equally enjoyed this activity, with minimum imput on my side, which does not happen often :)

You will need the following:
  • craft foam, felt, thicker paper, cardboard or something similar
  • buttons in different shapes and sizes (I recommend going through grandma's stash)
  • some glue
  • some string
You can use the finished tree as a Christmas tree decoration or put it on a piece of cardboard and make a Christmas card.

Porodična jelka - A Family Christmas Tree

Cooperation between bloggers is a wonderful thing! During my blogging, I have met a fellow blogger (Mom, let's make something), a very creative mother of two. She came accross these craft foam sheets in a nearby store and thought of me. She offered to send me a few sheets and a some glitter, but due to my busy life and the huge quantity of ideas with this material, they remained unused until now.

Even though only me and Ema (well, mostly Ema) worked on this project, the whole family was involved in a way, even though only by leaving a handprint. You can use these Christmas trees as ornaments for your big Christmas tree, you can glue them on a sheet of paper and make Christmas cards, you can use them to decorate your flat, or glue them to your front door (as we did with the biggest one, with all four handprints). All you need are some handprints, a few sheets of craft foam (you can also use fleece, cardboard or whatever you like), scissors, glue, glitter and that's it!

We made these decorations last Christmas, but due to my morning sickness I didn't manage to write a post about them in time. So here are the instructions, ready for this Christmas.

You will need:

  • sugar
  • some glitter
  • water
  • cookie cutters
  • a tray
  • a match, a tooth pick or a straw
  • ribbons or strings
Mix the sugar with the glitter and add just a little water. The mixture should resemble snow (the sugar should not dissolve, it should only be a little wet). Put the cookie cutters on the tray and fill them with the mixture of sugar and water. Use your fingers to press the sugar into the cutter, add little stars or balls or any other decoration if you wish, and make a small hole using a match. It occurred to me later that we should have pressed a short piece of straw into the mixture, so that the opening would not close during the drying period.

Let the ornaments dry overnight. If the mixture of sugar and water isn't too watery, you will be able to remove the cookie cutter almost immediately, so you can use it again straight away.

When the decorations are dry, hang the ornaments on the Christmas tree using a string or a ribbon.
